L3Harris has delivered a new VC-25B Air Force One aircraft after converting a Qatari 747-8i into the presidential transport in just 10 months. The company’s ISR division head confirmed that 400 employees worked 24/7 to complete the modification by a July 4 deadline.

The accelerated timeline marks a significant departure from typical presidential aircraft procurement cycles, which often stretch for years. By leveraging an existing airframe and dedicating intensive labor resources, L3Harris demonstrated that rapid delivery of high-assurance platforms is achievable under extreme schedule pressure.

The project involved integrating secure communications, defensive systems, and presidential accommodations into a commercial airliner. While no specific cost figures were disclosed, the rapid pace likely carried premium labor and expedited supply chain expenses. The aircraft joins the VC-25B fleet as a replacement for the aging VC-25A platforms currently in service.

The precedent of a 10-month conversion could influence future acquisition strategies for other heads-of-state transports or specialized military airlift. However, such speed may not be replicable for more complex green-field designs or programs requiring extensive flight testing and certification.
