FUJIFILM Biotechnologies is executing a major expansion, with approximately $7 billion in projects underway across the United States and Europe. The centerpiece of this strategy is its $3.2 billion Holly Springs, North Carolina site, which represents the largest single investment in the company's history.

The first phase of the Holly Springs facility came online in September 2025, marking a key operational milestone. A second phase is slated for around 2028, according to COO Maja Herold Pedersen, who discussed the company's integration of AI and autonomy in manufacturing operations.

The expansion reflects growing demand for contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO) services. By investing heavily in capacity and digital infrastructure, the firm aims to streamline the path from quality control to full operational autonomy.

Beyond North Carolina, the firm is also expanding in Denmark, further strengthening its European footprint. The $7 billion figure encompasses multiple sites, though the company did not provide a detailed breakdown of all projects.

Pedersen emphasized that AI and autonomous systems are central to transforming quality operations. However, the company faces execution risks, including construction timelines, regulatory approvals, and the challenge of integrating advanced technologies across global sites.
