The Miami Heat have landed their superstar. Two-time NBA MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo is heading to South Beach in a blockbuster trade with the Milwaukee Bucks, according to a person familiar with the deal who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity.
Milwaukee receives Tyler Herro, Kel'el Ware, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Kasparas Jakucionis, three first-round picks, a pick swap, and a second-round selection. Veteran forward Bobby Portis will join Antetokounmpo in Miami. The 10-time All-Star averaged over 30 points per game last season and gives the Heat the elite scorer they've lacked since LeBron James departed.
The trade dramatically reshapes the Eastern Conference hierarchy. Miami, which reached the NBA Finals twice in the last five years without a true superstar, now pairs Antetokounmpo with Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo. The Bucks, meanwhile, pivot to a younger core and stockpile draft assets, signaling a rebuild.
For Miami, the window is now. The Heat will enter next season as consensus Eastern Conference favorites. The Bucks, by contrast, begin a new era built around Herro and their trove of future picks. The deal cannot be finalized until it receives league approval, which is expected within days.
Pat Riley, the Heat president, called it "a historic day for this franchise" in a team statement. "Giannis is a generational talent, and we're thrilled to welcome him and Bobby to Miami." The Bucks did not immediately comment.
