Lightbringer, a Malmö-based AI-powered LegalTech company, is transforming how startups and SMEs secure patents. It has raised €8.6 million ($10 million) in Series A funding to fuel its US expansion and next phase of product development.
The round was co-led by London-based 6 Degrees Capital and Amsterdam-based Newion. Thomas Olszewski, Partner at 6 Degrees Capital, is among the investors backing the firm's mission to "take on Big Law" and replace existing patent firms.
The platform uses artificial intelligence to streamline the patent application process, a notoriously complex and costly field dominated by large law firms. By targeting startups and SMEs, Lightbringer addresses a market where intellectual property protection is often out of reach due to high legal fees.
This funding signals growing investor appetite for AI-driven disruption in legal services. The patent market, historically resistant to automation, is now facing pressure from leaner, tech-first alternatives that promise faster and cheaper filings.
Founded by a team with deep expertise in both AI and intellectual property law, Lightbringer has yet to disclose its revenue or customer numbers. The company plans to use the fresh capital to scale its engineering team and enter the US market, where patent litigation costs are among the highest globally.
