Adam McKay has disclosed details about a never-produced sequel to the 2006 comedy hit "Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby." In an interview with Business Insider, the writer-director revealed that the sequel would have sent Ricky Bobby — played by Will Ferrell — to race for a Formula 1 team in Denmark or the Netherlands.

McKay noted the sequel would have flipped the original's flag-waving subtext. The first film grossed over $160 million at the worldwide box office and generated substantial DVD and Blu-ray revenue, making a follow-up a natural consideration for Sony. However, McKay and Ferrell ultimately decided to make "Step Brothers" instead.

No further details about the sequel's plot or production history have been confirmed beyond McKay's remarks. The original film remains a cultural touchstone, known for its quotable lines like "Baby Jesus" and "Shake and Bake," and it helped cement the Ferrell-John C. Reilly comedic partnership.

It remains unclear whether any script or treatment for the sequel was formally developed. McKay now focuses on dramatic projects, including the upcoming climate disaster film "Don't Look Up" for Netflix.
