Insta360 has officially launched the Luna Ultra, its first handheld stabilized camera, in the US market. The device features a pair of 8K cameras mounted on a 3-axis gimbal, positioning it as a step up from DJI's Osmo Pocket series, which maxes out at 4K. It is available starting today for $769.99 through Insta360's online store and retailers including Amazon, B&H, and Best Buy.

This launch follows months of teases, leaks, and a debut at NAB 2026, as well as an initial release in China. The Luna Ultra targets creators who need high-resolution stabilization without a dedicated operator. Notably, DJI's latest Osmo Pocket models are not sold in the US, giving Insta360 a clear opportunity in the American market.

The primary camera uses a 1-inch 8K sensor, according to the company, while the secondary camera supports telephoto capabilities. The device promises sleek stabilization and dual-angle shooting for vloggers and filmmakers. However, battery life and storage specifics were not provided in the announcement.

For US creators, this could fill a gap left by DJI's absence, but the higher price point may limit adoption compared to cheaper 4K alternatives. The Luna Ultra will compete with existing gimbals and action cams, though its dual-camera setup is relatively unique in this form factor.

Industry observers will watch early reviews to see if Insta360 delivers on stabilization quality and software integration, as DJI has long dominated this niche. If successful, the Luna Ultra could reshape consumer expectations for pocket-sized cinema tools.
