Former Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb (R) announced he is co-chairing a new organization called RAISE US, aimed at easing the American workforce’s transition to an artificial intelligence-based economy. The initiative, launched in partnership with other former governors, focuses on retraining and upskilling workers whose jobs are most vulnerable to automation.
RAISE US has secured backing from major tech players including Amazon, Anthropic, and Microsoft. According to Holcomb, this support demonstrates a shared commitment across both public and private sectors to ensure workers are not left behind as AI reshapes industries. The organization plans to work with employers, educators, and policymakers to create scalable training programs.
The move comes amid growing concern over AI-related job losses. A recent McKinsey report estimated that up to 12 million US workers may need to switch occupations by 2030 due to automation. While the Biden administration has also proposed AI workforce initiatives, bipartisan efforts like RAISE US could accelerate implementation.
Critics question whether voluntary corporate partnerships can deliver enough retraining at the scale needed. Labor advocates argue that without mandatory employer contributions or federal funding, such efforts may fall short. Holcomb insists that private-sector commitment is critical, but acknowledges the need for government support.
The organization plans to pilot programs in several states before expanding nationally. Its success will likely depend on sustained corporate engagement and measurable outcomes for displaced workers.
