Anthropic has released Claude Cowork on web and mobile for Max subscribers. The move extends the tool beyond its previous laptop-only availability, allowing users to start tasks from a desk, receive status updates on their phone, and retrieve finished work even with the laptop closed.
Until now, the coding agent primarily lived on a user’s machine. The expansion signals Anthropic’s ambition to embed Cowork across a broader range of workflows, potentially competing with tools like Microsoft Copilot and Google Gemini.
New data from ZDNet shows that 90% of Claude Cowork sessions are not related to coding or software development. That suggests the platform is already being adopted for general office work, from document drafting to data analysis.
For Max subscribers, the update promises greater flexibility in how they manage long-running tasks. The ability to monitor progress on a phone while away from a desk could appeal to remote and hybrid workers seeking seamless continuity.
However, the tool's reliability for complex non-coding tasks remains untested at scale. Some users may still prefer dedicated enterprise assistants like OpenClaw for specialized workflows.
