The New York Liberty defeated the Las Vegas Aces 87-76 on Tuesday night at Michelob Ultra Arena, setting the stage for their upcoming Commissioner’s Cup final. The win gives New York a psychological edge heading into the championship rematch between the league’s two most dominant teams.
Breanna Stewart powered the Liberty with a game-high 28 points, while Sabrina Ionescu added 21 points and 8 assists. The Aces, despite a strong third-quarter push, couldn’t overcome New York’s defensive intensity down the stretch. Las Vegas shot just 41% from the field.
The win improves New York’s record against Las Vegas this season to 2-1, positioning the Liberty as a serious contender for the top seed. The Aces remain atop the Western Conference but now hold only a half-game lead over the second-place Storm.
Both teams now turn their attention to the Commissioner’s Cup final, scheduled for August 15. The Liberty will look to avenge last year’s loss to the Aces in the same event, while Las Vegas aims to reassert its dominance before the playoffs.
“There’s history between us,” Stewart said after the game. “Every time we play them, it’s a battle. This win gives us confidence, but we know they’ll be ready for the final.”
