Giannis Antetokounmpo's departure from the Milwaukee Bucks became official Monday, ending his tenure with the franchise that drafted him. The two-time MVP posted a video message on social media thanking Bucks fans as the NBA trade window opened.
The blockbuster deal sends Antetokounmpo and Bobby Portis to Miami. In return, the Bucks receive Tyler Herro, Kel'el Ware, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Kasparas Jakucionis, Nate Ament, and four future draft picks.
Miami acquires a generational talent in his prime, instantly transforming their championship outlook. Antetokounmpo averaged 30.4 points, 11.5 rebounds, and 6.5 assists last season, earning All-NBA First Team honors.
For Milwaukee, the return package centers on Herro, a 24-year-old guard who averaged 20.8 points last season, plus a haul of young assets and draft capital. The Bucks now pivot to rebuilding around Damian Lillard.
The Heat immediately become Eastern Conference favorites, though integrating Antetokounmpo into Miami's system will require adjustments. Milwaukee faces a long road ahead without its franchise cornerstone.
"Milwaukee will always be home," Antetokounmpo said in the video. "I gave everything I had for that city and those fans." Heat president Pat Riley declined comment on the trade.
