Ford unveiled its second-generation electric pickup truck, the F-150 Lightning, with a starting price of $62,000 and a targeted range of 320 miles. The vehicle is designed to compete directly with the Tesla Cybertruck.
The F-150 Lightning is priced below the Cybertruck’s starting MSRP of around $80,000, signaling Ford’s aggressive push to dominate the electric truck segment. Ford claims the pickup will have a towing capacity of 10,000 pounds.
Ford’s announcement comes as EV pickup competition intensifies. The Cybertruck has faced production delays, while Rivian’s R1T and GM’s Silverado EV have struggled with supply chain issues. Ford’s early mover advantage in volume production could be decisive.
If Ford hits its range and price targets, the Lightning could capture a significant share of the lucrative full-size pickup market in the United States. Analysts note that fleet orders from commercial customers will be critical for scaling production profitably.
Ford has not yet released official EPA range estimates or confirmed delivery timelines. Some industry watchers caution that battery costs and charging infrastructure remain headwinds for mass adoption of electric trucks.
