Charles Leclerc won the British Grand Prix in a dramatic race that reshuffled the championship standings. The Ferrari driver held off late pressure as title leader Kimi Antonelli suffered a costly mechanical setback.

Antonelli appeared poised to challenge Leclerc, running on much fresher tyres and closing in for a potential victory. However, damage sustained from running over a kerb sidelined his charge. He ultimately finished 16th after being demoted from ninth due to a five-second penalty for the incident.

George Russell and Lewis Hamilton capitalized on Antonelli's misfortune. Russell's strong result slashed the gap to his teammate at the top of the standings to just 25 points, injecting fresh momentum into Mercedes' championship hopes. The team now holds the top two positions in the drivers' standings.

With the gap narrowed, the championship battle becomes a direct intra-team contest. Russell will look to carry this momentum into the next round, while Antonelli must address reliability concerns to protect his lead. Hamilton also gains ground, adding a third threat to the title fight.

"It's a long season, and we showed we can fight back," a Mercedes team source said, acknowledging both the setback and the opportunity ahead.
