VSCO has launched Studio Pro, a new photo editing app for iOS that directly challenges Adobe's dominance in professional photography tools. The app, arriving on macOS later this year, targets high-volume workflows like weddings, sports, and events.
The move marks a significant pivot for VSCO, historically known for its consumer-focused filters and social features. By offering batch editing, style matching, and VSCO Galleries, the company is courting serious photographers with a subscription model that rivals Adobe's pricing.
Priced at $500 per year, the subscription reflects a premium positioning. At launch, the app includes batch editing capabilities, the ability to match styles from a reference image, and image sharing through VSCO Galleries. Future updates promise RAW support, advanced export options, and aspect ratio adjustments.
The app is designed for managing high-volume projects, according to a press release, specifically mentioning "weddings, portraits, events, sports, school photography, and other large-scale photoshoots." This positions Studio Pro squarely against Adobe Lightroom.
However, the steep price tag may deter freelancers and small studios already invested in Adobe's ecosystem. Without RAW support at launch, early adopters might find the tool incomplete compared to competitors.
