A modified desktop graphics card built from laptop-grade RTX 4080M silicon is falling short of official alternatives in gaming benchmarks. According to Tom's Hardware, the custom card currently sells for roughly $400 in China.

When pitted against AMD's RX 9070 GRE, which costs slightly more, the RTX 4080M mod loses in every tested title except PUBG. Its key advantage is a power draw of just 100 watts during gaming, far below typical desktop GPUs.

The card appears to target enthusiasts seeking ultra-efficient performance or experimenting with salvaged components. However, its narrow lead in only a single game suggests limited real-world appeal for most buyers.

Buyers should weigh the low power consumption against mediocre gaming results and potential driver or stability quirks common with modified hardware. The RX 9070 GRE delivers better overall value for standard gaming workloads.

Because the RTX 4080M is a non-standard mod, long-term support and warranty remain uncertain, making this a niche option even among budget-conscious builders.
