President Trump said Friday he is considering "winding down" the war with Iran without resolving the closure of the Strait of Hormuz. Writing on Truth Social, Trump stated the U.S. is "getting very close to meeting our objectives" in degrading Iran's military capabilities and protecting regional allies.

The potential withdrawal would leave a major global economic crisis unresolved, as the closed strait represents a critical chokepoint for Gulf oil shipments. Trump indicated other nations that use the waterway should "guard and police" it themselves, noting "The United States does not" use the strait.
