Google is testing a standalone version of its Gemini AI assistant for macOS, according to Bloomberg. The app would mark Gemini's entry into desktop territory and put it in more direct competition with OpenAI's ChatGPT and Anthropic's Claude, both of which already offer Mac applications.
The macOS app appears to offer the same core features as the web version, including responding to prompts, web search, and generating text, images, and code. However, the key differentiator could be a feature called "Desktop Intelligence," which would allow Gemini to view screen content and pull information directly from other apps to enhance responses.
