New York City has introduced a new program to accelerate accessory dwelling unit construction through pre-reviewed building plans and standardized designs. The 'ADU for You' package launched last week as part of Mayor Zohran Mamdani's effort to address the city's housing supply and affordability challenges.

The program centers on a collection of standard plans for small secondary homes that have already undergone city review, potentially reducing approval timeframes for developers and homeowners. The initiative also provides an online guidebook and feasibility assessment tools to help property owners navigate the ADU development process.
