Google announced a proposed data center in Michigan that features renewable energy integration and demand response capabilities. The project, developed in partnership with utility DTE Energy, can reduce power consumption during peak electricity demand periods, according to Inside Climate News.

The facility represents a potential model for reducing the carbon footprint of data centers, which are among the fastest-growing sources of electricity demand. The demand response feature allows the data center to temporarily scale back operations when the electrical grid faces high demand, reducing strain on fossil fuel-powered peak generation.
