Severe Tropical Cyclone Narelle is expected to make landfall in far north Queensland within hours, bringing devastating winds with gusts up to 250 kilometers per hour. The cyclone poses significant threats to the remote Cape York region, where weather monitoring infrastructure is limited.
Winds of this magnitude are capable of uprooting large trees, completely stripping them of branches, and causing extensive property damage. The cyclone is also expected to trigger widespread power outages across the affected areas. Waves of near-record heights have already begun battering the Cairns coastline as the storm approaches.
