US airports are experiencing significant operational disruptions, with flight delays and cancellations reaching critical levels. On Sunday, 10,740 flights were delayed and 3,249 were canceled within, into, or out of the US, according to FlightAware. Monday saw these numbers rise to 12,926 delays and 4,863 cancellations respectively.
Major airports are bearing the brunt of the crisis. More than half of flights into and out of Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson airport were delayed Monday, while over a third of those at New York's LaGuardia Airport were canceled. By Tuesday morning, there were already 1,156 delays and 215 cancellations recorded.
