Artemis II's four astronauts officially broke Apollo 13's human spaceflight distance record of 248,655 miles from Earth on Monday, surpassing a mark that had stood for over 55 years. Mission commander Reid Wiseman commemorated the moment by naming a lunar crater "Carroll" after his wife who passed away from cancer in 2020. The crew will reach their maximum distance of 252,760 miles just after 7 p.m. ET tonight.
