OpenAI has fundamentally restructured its partnership with Microsoft, ending its effective cloud exclusivity and opening the door to broader enterprise distribution. The revised deal allows the AI company to sell its models through any cloud provider, including Amazon Web Services and Google Cloud.

Under the new terms, Microsoft's cut of OpenAI revenue is capped, and a controversial provision tied to the achievement of artificial general intelligence has been scrapped. Amazon CEO Andy Jassy announced on Monday that OpenAI's models would soon be available directly on AWS Bedrock, with more details expected at a San Francisco event on Tuesday.

The move intensifies competition among cloud giants for AI workloads, potentially pressuring margins as they race to offer the best models. For enterprises, it means easier access to frontier AI tools without being tethered to a single cloud provider.
