President Donald Trump told reporters he was “not satisfied with what they are offering” after Iran delivered its latest response to U.S. amendments on a draft peace deal. A regional official told Axios the response was transmitted to Washington on Thursday via Pakistani mediators.

The exchange signals diplomacy has not entirely frozen, even as Trump maintains a U.S. naval blockade and considers new military action against Iran. Last weekend, Tehran proposed reopening the Strait of Hormuz and ending hostilities, with nuclear talks postponed for later.

On Monday, White House envoy Steve Witkoff sent amendments that reinsert the nuclear issue into the draft text, according to a source familiar. One demand reportedly requires Iran to commit not to move enriched uranium out of its bombed nuclear facilities or restart activity at those sites while negotiations continue.

Trump's dissatisfaction suggests the gap between the two sides remains wide, despite the ongoing communication. The U.S. is weighing further military steps as the naval blockade continues to pressure Tehran.

A regional official indicated the response was a signal of willingness to negotiate, but the president's blunt rejection showed the path to a deal is still contested.
