Anthropic announced it will block Claude subscription access for third-party AI agent tools, including OpenClaw, effective April 5 at 12 pm PT. The policy change affects thousands of developers who built autonomous workflows using flat-rate Claude subscription plans.

The new restrictions force developers to choose between paying API token rates, which can be significantly more expensive for high-usage applications, or migrating their systems to competing AI models. Developers previously relied on subscription plans to run automated agents and workflows at predictable costs.
