The White House is actively negotiating with Anthropic to gain access to the AI firm's powerful new model, Mythos Preview, for federal government use. This comes despite the company's ongoing blacklisting by the Pentagon as a supply chain risk. CEO Dario Amodei is scheduled to meet with White House chief of staff Susie Wiles on Friday in an attempt to resolve the bitter standoff.

Anthropic is currently suing the Pentagon after being blacklisted when Amodei refused to allow his AI to be used without restrictions. Even officials who dislike the firm concede its tools could aid U.S. national security—or harm it if they fall into the wrong hands. The administration recognizes the model's sophisticated, and potentially dangerous, ability to breach cybersecurity defenses.

Mythos is only being rolled out to a select group of companies and organizations to assess its cyber capabilities and harden defenses. Some government agencies, including parts of the intelligence community and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, are already testing the system. Treasury and others have also expressed interest in acquiring it.

The Office of Management and Budget has sent an email to agencies stating it is looking into whether they can use Mythos. Sources indicate agencies may gain access in the coming weeks. After Anthropic took the administration to court, negotiations with the Pentagon chilled, but the firm has since hired key Trumpworld consultants to facilitate a deal.

A source close to negotiations argued it would be "grossly irresponsible for the U.S. government to deprive itself of the technological leaps" the new model presents, suggesting withholding it would be "a gift to China."
